So, monitor works. Monitor is plugged in.
Power supply works (fan is running), computer is plugged in.
There are lights on the motherboard.
The hard drive makes an occasional noise.
The monitor is not receiving any information.
Discuss.

1) If you have another monitor that you know works available, you might try that.
2) If that doesn't work, there's a fair chance its your video card acting up (ya know.. the new one?). If you're mobo has onboard video, you might take the video card out and see if it goes back to a normal display.
3) If you can't get results with either of those, you might try pulling the hard drive out and trying to boot to BIOS. That should let you know whether there's a MoBo problem or a HD problem.
If you find it's the video card, you might try making sure your drivers and / or bios version are up to date.
If you find it's the mobo, you should try to update the bios on it.
If you find its the hard drive, pat yourself on the back that the (probably) least expensive piece broke? Then get a couple of cold beers while you reinstall everything.
If your monitor is hosed, well.. they aren't as expensive as they used to be right?

You might not believe what happened to it if I told you.
Suffice it to say that it wasn't exactly plugged in to the motherboard.
Sorta.

Eesh. Hopefully neither was damaged from only being partially seated?

incidentally, fuck cheap cases for EXACTLY this reason. I lost a video card to a case who's expansion-card seating was very loose. Plugged in a second monitor while the machine was running, the cheap not-well-seated expansion card levered its way out of the mobo, and the blue smoke came out.

Nah, they both seem good. Stress-testing them both atm, just to make sure (and backing up hurriedly).
I have an antec case, and I really like it, it's just a _smidge_ off on the screws for the GTX260 (which is gtfo massive). Both came loose and it half-fell out of the PCI slot. Was really really really hot half an hour after I found the problem, so I think we were blue-smoke bound.
